BASC is directing gamekeepers who use professional rodenticides towards an open letter from the chairman of the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU).
The letter from CRRU chairman, Alan Buckle, includes advice and guidance to gamekeepers and highlights the importance of following product labelling. The letter also signposts to further resources, including where to find additional information and how to report issues if you feel rodenticides are being “misused or abused”.
Glynn Evans, BASC’s Head of Game and Wildlife Management, said: “In certain situations the use of professional rodenticides, by gamekeepers and others, can be the only effective method to control rats and the issues they pose, including significant damage to wildlife, livestock and to public health.
“However use of these products is not without issue and this open letter is a timely reminder for anyone who uses them to follow all rules and regulations associated with their use.”
