Members of BASC’s research team recently travelled to Poland to speak at an international conference on game and wildfowl.
BASC scientific advisors Dr Cat McNicol and Heather Warrender presented research on wildfowl and game birds at the 36th Annual Congress of the International Union of Game Biologists, held in Warsaw.
The biennial event brings together game and wildlife researchers from across Europe. It provides a forum for discussion and presentation of research related to nature management, nature protection, agriculture and forestry.
Cat McNicol said: “Events like this are not only important for sharing work from within the UK hunting sector, but they also give us an opportunity to collaborate with game and wildlife biologists from other countries. It was great to present our research on an international platform and this allows BASC to be part of the larger hunting community and give a voice to UK-based research and challenges.”
Heather Warrender reinforced this, saying: “This is the third time I have attended IUGB and each time I have come away with new connections which allow BASC to work across the migratory flyway. This is particularly important for projects led by BASC such as our wing survey. Our members’ contributions to projects such as these allow us to better monitor our migratory ducks and target conservation efforts within the UK and across Europe.”
