BASC Breeder Club for gundogs launched at The Game Fair

The BASC Breeder Club, launched in partnership with specialist providers Agria Pet Insurance, is free to join and provides five-week insurance cover for puppies.

This year’s Game Fair saw the launch of the new BASC Breeder Club in partnership with Agria Pet Insurance. The club provides a comprehensive support system and valuable resources for working dog breeders. Membership is free to join and allows breeders to activate five-week insurance for puppies, covering up to £4,000 of vet fees when they move to their forever homes.

BASC’s Breeder Club aims to help working dog breeders to enhance their knowledge, share best practice and positively contribute to the development of gundog breeds.

Speaking at The Game Fair, Agria’s partnership manager Mark Walden, said: “We’ve been speaking to lots of people at The Game Fair who have been getting treatments for their dogs at a cost of three or four thousand pounds, which seems to be the norm. It’s a big issue and we estimate that only 25 to 30 per cent of dogs are insured in the UK. Given the working gundog community is a growing one, we want to provide owners with the reassurance that we will cover working activities as part of the support package.”

In most cases, new insurance taken out by owners will not cover puppies for anything other than accidents for around two weeks. This need is met by the BASC Breeder Club, which provides insurance protection during the first five weeks after leaving the breeder. The BASC Breeder Club gives essential peace of mind that puppies are covered in case veterinary care is required.

In addition to immediate cover for illness, accidents and injuries, the free five-week cover also provides:

• Refund of up to £2,500 for death from injury or illness.
• Up to £1,000 for advertising and reward for lost or stolen puppies.
• Continuous coverage from the moment the puppy is collected (if the new owners continue the free cover to a full policy).
• Free vet video calls 24/7 and access to expert advice through the Agria app.
• Breeders will also be able to:
